Applications and benefits of Emerging Technologies
for Healthcare
26-27 November 2007
TWI Cambridge, UK
Are you looking to learn more about
emerging technologies? How are micro and nanotechnologies impacting
the healthcare sector?
We invite you to attend this two day seminar to establish how micro
and nanotechnologies are already impacting on the healthcare sector
by enabling new products, procedures and therapies that match previously
un-met clinical needs or deliver more cost effective solutions.
An overview of the applications of current technologies will be
explained alongside other topics such as practical issues, medical
product development, financing, technology supply chains and case
studies. Potential pitfalls will be identified and ways to overcome
them revealed.
Who should attend? R&D staff, marketing and business development
managers, product development engineers.
You can find more information, including event programme and registration
information by emailing Rachel
Wall at TWI or alternatively you can find the seminar programme

The Impact of Emerging Technologies on
the Production, Mixing, Blending & Packaging of Food
4 October 2007
Sheffield Bioincubator, Sheffield, UK
Are Micro & Nano Technologies Relevant to Innovation in Today’s
Food and Nutraceuticals Sectors?
South Yorkshire is home to some of the UK’s pre-eminent Micro
and Nanotechnology, and Bioscience research. Together with an existing
food manufacturing base this is creating a hot-bed of innovation
in the region. In fact, with rapidly growing expertise in its universities
and strategic support from government agencies, it is well placed
to take advantage – particularly through the supply chain
and to leverage international collaboration.
The food industry will not be immune from emerging disruptive or
enabling technologies. The challenge is to find out what the impact
will be early enough to be able to plan ahead and take the appropriate
actions. Realising the value of properly harnessing these technologies
will be critical to the continued growth of South Yorkshire’s
food and nutraceuticals sectors.
To develop thinking on these topics and to bring together a selected
group of influential stakeholders, the Sheffield Bioincubator, Faraday
Packaging and TFI Ltd are organising a flagship one day event on
4th October 2007. This flagship event will bring together internationally
recognised experts from academia, industry and start-up businesses
to explore how emerging technologies will benefit the sector.

Course: Microsystems in Biomedical Engineering
and Medical Products
19 - 20 February 2007
Barcelona, Spain
Medical Products and Biomedical engineering are areas where the
application of microsystems technology can bring a real breakthrough
of new products. Miniaturisation and high reliability are key factors
for success in this market. High volume batch production allows
the emergence of low cost disposable products. The course will make
the attendees aware of the full range of potential applications
of microstructures. The case studies will show the full benefits
and challenges that have to be overcome when using new technology,
particularly microsystems.Practical guidance on how to plan a successful
medical product development will be given.
Target group
The course appeals to a wide range of R&D staff, marketing
and business development managers and engineers from industry as
well as biochemical and clinical technicians.
